It’s been a week in California and here’s what I’ve been up to. Ranji and Suthin came to pick me up from the airport. Like good mallus, we started the evening with a few drinks. Ranji’s facsination with fooseball continues. This time around I was wise enough to say “I have never played this game!”.

Dropped in to meet Sri and AV at their brand new place. The following day, ended up doing an interesting garden bed project with AV (refer the previous post). Had total fun doing it. Met Angshu in the evening to have a few drinks at Ale Arsenal. The most memorable part here, was when I pulled out a dollar from my phone to tip the rockstar looking bartender that followed a huge applause from the folks who saw that happen. First public act so to speak. Ended up staying over a Angshu’s place. Well, his fascination with FIFA on PS continues as well. Again, with that much alcohol in the system, I was quick enough to say “I don’t know what this is” before getting my ass whopped.

He took me to San Andreas lake the next morning before we headed out to the city for a few tasting sessions at St George spirits and Faction Brewing. The place looked like these huge manufacturing set-ups from outside but had a good SF charm to it inside. The Raspberry liquer was our favourite from the lot we tried.

That evening caught up with AV’s work mates at Cafe Barrone. Entertained them too with some of my tricks. Fun evening with some beer, champagne and loads of laughter.

Next day, Sri treated me to one of my bucket list items that we falied to do in my previous trip. Tour inside The Rock. Creepy as hell to learn how inmates lived there decades ago. The tour was well organised and got a glimpse of life inside a maximum security prison.

Met some of Sri and AV’s friends at a chilled out place called Biergarten. Three large ship containers serve as kitchen, bar and some storage. Benches and umbrellas entertain the guests. Very cool outdoor setting to chill with friends.

Sunday was family time with Sri’s folks and sisters visting for Mother’s day celebration. My highlight this day was teaching little Shivani a card trick – Between the two red queens. She performed it for the rest and was so thrilled by it.

Met Lotika and Mathew in the evening. Poor Mathew will be out of action for another five weeks with his broken ankle. Spending time with them had such mixed feelings. The number of times M asked me to catch up with them while I was here is not funny. Guess she was smiling at us when we downed a few drinks as she had asked me to. Speaking to Lotika felt nice but at the same time knowing this is the closest I can be with M made me feel a bit helpless. We spoke so much about her and yeah, miss her like crazy.

Back to Ranji’s place this week and looking forward to our road trip to LA and Catalina on Thursday.
