Its been a super exciting start to the trip. Ended up doing a lot in just 2 and a half days. Sri picked me up from the airport on Friday and it just felt surreal for a long long time until he took me to an Indian cash and carry store. It was so Indian, I thought I could pay in rupees and felt I might bump into people I know. Scary! But the bubble went pooof at that instant.
Ranji picked me up that same evening. Rule number 1. When a bunch of boys living together asks you if you play foosball (when they have a table at home), your answer should be “Never touched it” regardless of your experience. Got my ass kicked at this game. The same night, just as a morale booster they took me bowling. My kinda territory.
Went to Stanford University for a music concert by the students on Saturday. The bing concert hall is out of this world. Since there was a soccer match just around the corner, got to see a prequel to 4th of July fireworks.
So, I started my international career. Thanks to Ranji’s roommate, Srijith, got to play a cricket match on Sunday morning at Los Paseos Park at Santa Teresa. Felt good being the top scorer with 25 runs and winning a low scoring match by 12 runs. The local desis were interested to know if the overseas player is available for the next tournament.
And yes, Golden gate happened immediately after. What an outstanding place. The view of Alcatraz and the city on one side and hills on the other, is classic. The wind speeds were insane. Aparna was not very amused with the idea of wearing a skirt.
Ended the weekend with a stand up by some 15 odd local talents at Punch Line Comedy Club at 444 Battery St. Some were ridiculously funny. Had dinner at the Plant cafe. Yum, organic food.
Got up and went for a run at Palo Alto to burn the calories put on over the weekend. Here are some pics from an eventful start.
More later in the week, as I need to spend some time with work next couple of days, before my write hand abandons me.
